Rondo Media is to produce a BBC1 daytime drama starring Sanjeev Bhaskar as high-flying immigrant doctor who finds himself working in 1960s Wales.

The 5 x 45 minute series focuses on the Asian doctors who came to Britain following an invitation by then health minister, Enoch Powell.

"We wanted to celebrate the immigrant contribution to the NHS," said Rondo Media producer, Tom Ware.

"It's still the case that more than 70% of doctors in the Welsh valleys are immigrants or British Asians."

The series, a co-production between Rondo Media and Avatar, will air in the autumn and will feature as part of a week-long series of factual programmes by the BBC looking at social changes during the decade.
